Civil Service Technical Guild Local 375 DC37, AFSCME, AFL-CIO
We are more than 5500 engineers, architects, planners, scientists who design, build and maintain New York City’s infrastructure. We are proud of our work to keep our great city running. We are the Civil Service Technical Guild, Local 375 of District Council 37, AFSCME.
Local 375 members work in civil service titles subject to examinations in New York City. The union represents both workers who are "permanent," i.e., who have passed the civil service test for the title they are serving in, and workers who are "provisional," i.e., who have not passed the civil service test for the title they are serving in and were appointed provisionally to their job. DC 37 members scored a major victory earlier this week when the State legislature passed legislation that protects patients from excessive hospital emergency room charges. Passage comes after intense lobbying by a coalition of patient advocates, consumer health and business organizations, and unions, including DC 37.
Your union is about more than winning raise. Through negotiations over many years, our union has built up a comprehensive benefits package, which serves as a model for unions around the country. Here we highlight many of the benefits and protections our union has won at the bargaining table or established on our own.
Members of collective bargaining units represented by DC 37 (except Local 371) are eligible for Education Fund classes and programs. Terms for Education Fund classes begin in September, January and April respectively. For more information on eligibility click here or call (212) 815 -1700.
Join Workers United/SEIU (ILGWU) for the commemoration of the 108th anniversary of the 1911 Triangle Factory Fire, one of the pivotal events in U.S. history and a turning point in labor’s struggle to achieve fair wages, dignity at work and safe working conditions.
Outrage at the deaths of 146 mostly young, female immigrants inspired the union movement and helped to institute worker protections and fire safety laws.
On February 1, 2019, AFSCME's Judicial Panel issued a decision on the three (3) protests filed in the Local 375 elections. With all of the protests dismissed, the administratorship is working with President Mike Troman to transition control of Local 375 back to the newly elected leadership. Members at the City University of New York voted by more than 98 percent in favor of a 52-month new contract that provides a raise of more than 8 percent with no givebacks.
The contract–which covers 10,000 members–includes a new paid family leave benefit, which will go into effect in 2019.
“It’s a good contract,” said information technology assistant Anthony Chambers, a Local 2627 shop steward. “It’s in line with what the other city workers got, it’s equitable.”
