Local 375 Nominations Notice

DATE:    Tuesday, October 20, 2020
TIME:    12:00 P.M.
PLACE:  Email address: [email protected]

Dear Local 375 Member:

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, virtually every state in the nation has declared a state of emergency, imposed social distancing requirements, and prohibited gatherings of any sort. On March 20, 2020, New York State Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed an executive order requiring businesses to have 100 percent of their employees work from home or telework unless the institution is an essential service or provides essential services. The Governor has since updated the Executive Order to allow for gathering of no more than fifty (50) people.

In view of the circumstances, the executive board of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (“AFSCME”), our International Union and parent organization, has decided to temporarily waive the usual conduct of nominations at in-person meetings-and permit them to be done virtually so long as certain safeguards are met.

Article XIII, Section I B of the Local 375 Constitution requires election of officers and executive board members to be conducted every third year in the month of November with nominations in the month of October. Since we are unable to conduct our nominations at a regular membership meeting, DC 37 Law Dept. has authorized the various union locals to conduct the nominations by electronic means via email and virtual meetings.

Any dues paying member of the local may nominate candidates for office by submitting nominations to the email address listed at the top of this notice. Please note that a member can only submit nominations for the number of positions available. If it exceeds the number of candidates for a particular position, the Election Committee shall deem that the member intended to nominate those candidates listed in order they were nominated by the member and rule the others ineligible.

Please note that to be eligible for office, a nominee must have been a dues-paying member of Local 375 for one year immediately preceding the election except for the delegates positions whose only requirement is that the member(s) be in good standing leading up to the election. Nominators should identify themselves by First Name, Last Name, Agency at which they are employed, their title, their full personal street address, their personal telephone and mobile phone numbers, and of course, submit their nominations from their personal email address.

Nominators should include the First Name, Last Name, personal street address, telephone number and cell phone number of the nominees. Please also identify the nominee’s agency and title, as well as the individual’s personal email address.

The Election Committee will post the list of candidates nominated for each office on the Local 375 website. Any member who wishes to challenge the eligibility of a candidate to run for office must do so by submitting a challenge to the Election Committee no later than 5:00 p.m. on October 30, 2020. The Election Committee will post its determination regarding the eligibility challenge on the Local’s website.

Nominations on October 20th will be held for the following positions:

  1 President
  1 1st Vice President
  1 2nd Vice President
  1 Secretary
  1 Treasurer
  1 Sergeant-at-Arms
1 Chairperson of the Executive Committee
10 Delegates to District Council 37
8 Delegates to the Central Labor Council

Nominations must be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2020. Nominations received after the deadline will not be considered.

In solidarity,
.    Election Committee
