DC37 and The City College of New York Establish a Program for Union Members

The DC 37 Education Fund has signed an agreement with The City College of New York for the school to offer basic computer courses to DC 37 members.

This follows a similar agreement with Medgar Evers College, announced in August, to develop programs and courses to help members prepare for job promotions and certification tests.

This latest partnership between the Ed Fund and City University of New York institutions will provide opportunities for members to learn and enhance computer skills, as well as provide training to bolster work skills they need as city workers. The initial program includes classes in introductory computing and such vital program applications as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and for Microsoft PowerPoint.

The program will be offered through the university’s Division of Interdisciplinary Studies at the Center for Worker Education. The Center and DC 37 plan for a long-term relationship. The program will include certification courses and eventually credited college courses.

CCNY’s Division of Interdisciplinary Studies at the Center for Worker Education is geared for education of working New Yorkers. It offers courses that count toward bachelor degrees in interdisciplinary studies and early child education, as well as a master’s degree in the Study of the Americas and numerous certificate programs.

The Center for Worker Education serves students who have had limited access to a college education due to finances, work and family responsibilities. Its coursework is specifically designed to fit those needs.

The applications for the Winter 2017 cycle may be found online on the DC 37 website at http://www.dc37.net/benefits/education/edfund.html#pdfforms.

Classes will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 17. For more information on signing up for these ongoing courses, please call 212-815-1700.
