PSLF WAIVER EXPIRES OCT. 31- UPDATES AND FREE WEBINARS

ACT NOW: JUST TWO WEEKS LEFT to ERASE YOUR STUDENT DEBT

Dear Members:

Because of a COVID-emergency program from the U.S. Department of Education, many federal student loans are being forgiven for government or nonprofit workers. The program expires on October 31, in less than 15 days.

Please share this note with all colleagues, friends, and family who may benefit.

More than 5 million public servants are now eligible for student loan forgiveness. About 175,000 of us have already received an average of nearly $60,000! You could be next!

DC 37 is proud to partner with PSLF.nyc, a nonprofit effort that works with nonprofits, unions, and government agencies to spread the word about this important and urgent opportunity.

1. All student loan borrowers should start with the Help Tool at the U.S. Department of Education website: StudentAid.gov/PSLF, https://bit.ly/3fHs23T.

If that seems complicated, this 30-Minute PSLF Self-Service Tool walks any borrower through the necessary steps to meet the October 31 deadline in just 30 minutes.

2. If you get stuck or have any questions, join our partners at the PSLF.us Campaign, http://pslf.us/, for a free upcoming webinar:

  •  Wednesday, October 19, at 2:30 PM EST Register HERE.
  •  Thursday, October 20, at 7 PM EST Register HERE.

3. For those who have already used the PSLF Help Tool at http://StudentAid.gov but still need support, we've launched a series of Open Office Hours - no presentation, just open time for questions from those who've tried but gotten stuck.

  •  Monday, October 17, from 2:30 to 3:30 PM ET - REGISTER HERE
  • Wednesday, October 19, from 12 to 1 PM ET - REGISTER HERE
  •  Friday, October 21, from 10 to 11 AM ET - REGISTER HERE

4. DC 37 members eligible to receive services from the Municipal Employees Legal Services (MELS) program may contact the MELS Screening and Intake Unit to request information, advice, and assistance with the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, loan review and research, and instruction on accessing all necessary documents. The MELS Screening and Intake Unit can be reached at 212-815-1860.

We hope that many of you are able to take advantage of this exciting but short-term chance to eliminate your student debt.
