DC 37 HEALTH & SECURITY PLAN

Stress Management with PSU

The Personal Service Unit (PSU) of the DC 37 Health and Security Plan can help you manage stress more effectively. Chronic stress can significantly impact health, potentially leading to various physical and mental health problems, including heart disease, high blood pressure, digestive issues, sleep disruption, and increased susceptibility to illnesses.

Tips for Managing Stress:

  • Identify Stressors: Understanding the sources of stress in your life is the first step towards managing them.
  • Practice Relaxation Techniques: Techniques like deep breathing, meditation, and yoga can help calm the nervous system and reduce stress.
  • Practice Mindfulness: Paying attention to the present moment can help reduce rumination and improve emotional regulation.
  • Set Realistic Goals: Achieving goals, feeling accomplished, and receiving praise will release Dopamine, the pleasure hormone. Remember to set realistic benchmarks and celebrate your achievements.
  • Engage in Regular Exercise: Physical activity releases serotonin, a hormone that improves one’s mood and reduces stress.
  • Maintain a Healthy Diet: A balanced diet can provide the nutrients your body needs to cope with stress.
  • Get Enough Sleep: Adequate sleep is crucial for both physical and mental health, as it helps reduce cortisol, the hormone released during stressful situations.
  • Seek Support: Discuss your stress and coping strategies with friends, family, or a therapist.

The DC 37 Health & Security Plan’s PSU is here to support you. To speak with a Licensed Social Worker for confidential tele-therapy, call 212-815-1250 or 212-815-1260.
