We are in the process of preparing for chapter elections for chapter president, all officers, delegates and alternate delegates. Chapter Nominations are scheduled to be held in October and elections in November.

This is an excellent opportunity to become more involved with your chapter and with Local 375.

NYC’s LABOR PARADE RETURNS to FIFTH AVENUE on SATURDAY SEPT. 10

You’re invited to the Workers Leading, Workers Rising Labor Day Parade and March on Saturday, September 10 with Grand Marshal U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh. The parade kicks off from Fifth Avenue and East 44th Street in Midtown Manhattan. DC 37 and its locals will assemble on East 46th St. between Fifth and Vanderbilt Avenues and will march at 12 noon. Wear your DC 37 green t-shirt.

NOW AVAILABLE: HEALTH CARE WORKER BONUS PROGRAM from NEW YORK STATE

DC 37 fought hard to create a fund for “essential pay” for members on the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic. Governor Kathy Hochul recently announced New York State set aside $1.2 billion in the budget to fund bonuses up to $3,000 for health care and mental hygiene workers at public and private hospitals, health care facilities and related employers that provide health care-related functions. The New York State Health Care and Mental Hygiene Worker Bonus covers the period from Oct.

AFSCME FREE COLLEGE: IMPORTANT UPDATE

The U.S. Department of Education notified AFSCME “Free College” partners — Eastern Gateway Community College (EGCC), Central State University and Paul Quinn College — that they could no longer offer no-cost college to AFSCME members and their families. As a result, new students may not enroll. There is no financial liability owed by any former or existing students who participated in the program.
